Very excited to have my good friend and extraordinary mom as my guest blogger!!!
I love oil cleansing, and do it often. It is easier than you may think, and can save a boatload of money on fancy schmancy products. Give it a try :)

oil cleansing
For the past few weeks I have been doing the oil cleansing method for washing my face. I have quickly fallen in love and have since thrown out my old cleansers and moisturizers.
I started by researching the method online. I had heard a few people talk about oil cleansing and rave about the results but I wasn't quite sure what oils to use or what to do.
Choosing which oils and understanding what the oil would do for my skin was the first step.
We all have natural oils in our skin. Skin naturally produces oil because it needs it. Oil cleansing works with your skin and the natural oil it produces not against it. The basic concept is that using oil to massage your skin will dissolve the oil that has hardened with impurities and is inside your pores. The steam used in the method will open your pores allowing that oil to be easily removed.
Most sites I founded recommended starting with Castor oil and adding other oils to suit your particular skin type. Castor oil.
Castor Oil has potent anti-inflammatory properties, but is also healing and cleansing.
From here I needed to find a carrier oil to help moisturize and break down the thickness of the castor oil.
Here were some of the recommendations to choose from...
Jojoba (all skin types, but very desirable for acne-prone skin)
Sweet almond (all skin types, especially oily)
Grapeseed (all skin types, especially oily)
Avocado (dry and aging skin)
Sunflower Seed (all skin types)
I found that for my oily skin the best choice was a combination of castor oil, jojoba oil and avocado oil (purchased at wholefoods)
I used 1 table spoon of each and combined them in an easy to use pump (also purchased at wholefoods).
Here's exactly what I do:
I start by rinsing my face with warm water. I turn on the hot water full blast to get as hot as it can. I pump a quarter size of oil into my hands. I massage my face in hard circular motions pushing upwards. Once I feel I have addressed every area with care I soak a wash cloth under the hot water. I hold the wash cloth to my face for 20-30 seconds letting the heat and oil open my pores and deep clean my skin. Then I wipe away the oil and blot my skin dry.
Instantly my skin feels clean, moisturized and so soft. I truly cannot say enough good things about this method. I have used less make up and my skin is looking the best it has in a long time.
If there are any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
Next I'd love to try oil pulling... anyone else try it or have any tips?
*I was warned through a few people and websites that the first few days my skin may panic a bit while adjusting. The results could be acne, dry skin or excessive oil. I didn't experience this but for anyone trying this just a heads up....
